Sizing is always an issue for any gear. Just like bikes and running shoes a wetsuit must be tried on to ensure a great fit. The key to wetsuit sizing is “Try before you buy!” Like everything else, wetsuits can look amazing in an online catalog, but there truly is something to seeing and feeling the real neoprene before you make your final purchase. I can’t stress enough how important it is to try on a wetsuit before you buy it! After a few years of working with these suits I have made my own guide to sizing. It’s all in my head... This may seem weird, but I am strangely good at guessing which size people will be by a simple height and weight. I have also been known to be 99% accurate with sizing if I see you in person. Cool huh?

It’s completely up to you! I swim with a full-sleeve suit all the time. My two reasons are, that one, I need all the neoprene I can get to keep my slow butt floating, and secondly I just like the way a full-sleeve wetsuit feels. In sum, more neoprene makes a slow swimmer just a little bit faster. On the other hand, Beth swears by the Jane because she likes the feel of the water, and comes from a long and successful swimming background. She also has an amazing stroke, so the little she loses in buoyancy, she makes up for with natural efficiency. Another detail I may add is average water temperature! Think about your typical races during the season, are they in cold bodies of water? My bottom line is, if you get cold then go with the full, if not, the choice is yours...

“I bought my first triathlon wetsuit from Smoker Wetsuits. I can’t tell you how much I love it! While skeptical at first of Stephen’s suggestions for size, I have a suit that fits perfectly, feels like a second skin and helps me swim faster in open water. It's super comfortable and easy to get out of! I wear a sleeveless and it’s perfect for racing.”

“Smoker Wetsuits has helped me this past year with my races. From renting me a suit directly at a Mermaid Event, where I picked it up and left it there the day of the race, to letting me keep the suit a week in advance to practice for Wildflower. They were also very understanding of my needs for each race specifically, allowing me to use a full suit for the Stanford Treeathlon, and a Jane for my warmer races like Auburn. Smoker Wetsuits has a quality product, with personable service - something you can’t get if you rent from a store or major company.”
